Two providers are joining the neurosurgical team this spring.
West Islip— March 2nd 2022 — SpineCare Long Island today announced two additions to their growing staff of medical providers.
“We are very excited to share that Ahmad Latefi, DO, and Amrit Chiluwal, MD, are joining the physician team at SpineCare Long Island this spring,” says Dr. Kevin Mullins, Medical Director at SpineCare Long Island. “With these additions, we will be able to offer even more patients on Long Island and beyond the best care for their spine and brain related issues in the comfort of our beautiful, state-of-the-art facilities in Holbrook, West Islip, Huntington and now Great Neck.
Dr. Ahmad Latefi is a nationally recognized, board-certified neurosurgeon, treating disorders of the brain and spine. Prior to joining SpineCare Long Island, Dr. Latefi served as Director of Spine for Neurosurgery, Northwell Health, Northshore/LIJ. In addition, he served as Asst. Professor for Neurosurgery at the Hofstra School of Medicine. Dr. Latefi completed a Spine Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA, where he focused on spinal oncology and spinal deformity. Today, he is a well-established neurosurgeon and uses a variety of techniques including minimally invasive, robotic and endoscopic approaches to treat conditions of the brain and spine. He is also one of only a few neurosurgeons in the world to utilize Kyphoplasty with Intra-Operative Radiation Therapy (IORT) for metastatic tumors of the spine. His goal is always to increase quality of life for patients while maintaining the highest level of ethics in patient care.
Dr. Amrit K. Chiluwal is a fellowship trained neurosurgeon who believes in patient-centered care and has a particular interest and expertise in treating degenerative diseases of the cervical and lumbar spine, deep lesions/tumors of the brain and the skull base, cerebral bypass, aneurysms, carotid stenosis and brain arteriovenous malformations (AVMs). Dr. Chiluwal fundamentally believes that surgery should be the option of last resort. He provides a tailored treatment approach to each patient’s unique needs and is a firm believer in using minimally invasive techniques in order to minimize postoperative pain and facilitate faster recovery and minimal hospital stay. Dr. Chiluwal obtained his medical degree from New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY, and completed his fellowship in Cerebrovascular, Surgical Neuro Oncology and Skull base Neurosurgery at Lennox Hill Hospital in New York.
